Welcome to breaking Lorenz in Anoraks Corner

Here you will find a description of the German Lorenz cipher machine and its vulnerabilities, how these were exploited by the Allies. You will also find a series of intercept scenarios against which you can try your codebreaking skills, and simulations of nearly all the tools developed to break Lorenz. You can download and use these to try to break Lorenz messages yourself.

You can also save all these pages to a folder \anoraks\lorenz on your disk. Unzip lorenz.zip (520Kb) direct to your hard disc. This should create a folder \anoraks\lorenz. Then unzip ltools.zip (800Kb) into \anoraks\lorenz. You should end up with the folder \tools within folder \anoraks\lorenz. You can then run everything off line from disc.
